About us

A Brief History!

Street Def Jam! – this name may seem different as what other people say. Some says it’s korni, others say it’s a tongue twister, but others say it’s cute…well, don’t just think of this name because this name has a very long yet exciting history.

What is Street Def Jam?

Street Def Jam! is a group of dancers which is founded since 1995. It is formerly known as the “Street Movers” and the biggest thing that influence us to dance, acrobat, and breakdance is the most popular dance group in the Philippines which is the “Street Boys.”

Street Def Jam! has eight (8) members, four (4) original Street Movers and four (4) adopted friends which means that only four of our members are the original members of Street Movers which are dancing since 1995 up to date and the other four members are our friends which is younger than the four (4) originals ones. Other members of Street Movers remains to be a member of Street Def Jam so in short, the members of Street Movers are also members of Street Def Jam but the 4 original member has started to form Street Def Jam.

Where does “Street Def Jam” name comes from?

The name “Street Def Jam!” comes from the former dance group name which is the Street Movers. The word “Street” comes from the “Street” in our former name Street Movers. The word “Def” comes from the “Def” in the music artists group called as the “So so Def Bass All-star.” Since majority of us are fanatics of the So so Def Bass All-star, we think that we must put an acknowledgement to our idols in the music scene. We like the music style of So so Def and how they put their sound to the public, some of us collected their albums for listening pleasure, sound tripping, and dance with the sound of it too… you can visit So so Def Bass All-star website at www.sosodef.net. The word “Jam” comes from the “Jam” in the music type which is known as Slow Jam. All of us loved the music type Slow Jam… it is a slow flowing music or a remix of the love songs. We loved it to listen and we even dance to the tune of it, would you believed that we danced to the song “It might be you” by Stephen Bishop but it was a remix and has its slow pumping beat. Jam not only comes from the words Slow Jam but it was also an acronym fro “JAM” as in Juggernaut Acrobatic Maneuvers. The history is not as easy as how to pronounce the name “Street Def Jam!” — madshock
